Meet The Founder | Jillian Mack
At Grains & Garden, I believe the food on your table should connect you to the earth, not separate you from it.
Like many people, I began baking sourdough bread in 2020. It was not a fad for me, but a way to steady my mind on a new skill after the loss of our first baby. To prevent future pregnancy complications, our doctor prescribed a dose of folic acid 10x the recommended daily amount. It left me feeling jittery, anxious, and unable to sleep. Seeking answers, I poured my extra time at home into researching nutrition, gut health, and the differences between synthetic additives and real, whole foods.
As I looked closer at modern food production—specifically the heavy "enrichment" of standard grocery store bread and synthetic supplements—I felt compelled to learn scratch cooking. Working with real ingredients brought me back to childhood memories in the garden. Before long, I wasn't just baking bread for our family; I was growing a vegetable garden that even included a patch of heritage wheat.
There is a quiet diligence in baking a loaf of bread and watching a seed grow. I'm here to share that journey with you. My goal is to bridge the gap between plot and plate, offering our community a chance to slow down, taste real food, and experience the pure joy of the garden.
I’m not here to just sell goods. I am here to share a lifestyle.
At the table, or in the garden, I hope to see you soon.

FAQ
Do your baked goods taste "whole grain"?
If you're used to bitter and dry whole grain products, we don't blame you for asking! We had no idea 100% whole grain could taste this good!
Milling our flour immediately before baking ensures it does not have the the bitter taste of oxidation. We choose a blend of heritage grains for each bread and pastry based on their nutty, sweet, or savory flavor profiles. Our fine, stone-milled flour has a light and soft texture when baked.
Why is fresh milled flour better for health?
Fresh milled flour is superior for health because it preserves the entire grain kernel—including the germ and the bran—where vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats live. Commercial white flours strip these components away to extend shelf life, while standard whole wheat flours use high-heat processing that destroys delicate nutrients. Because we use freshly milled flour, the grain's natural nutrients remain completely intact and alive.

How does the CO Cottage Food Act support small businesses?
The CO Cottage Food Act allows certified entrepreneurs to safely prepare foods from their home kitchens instead of an expensive commercial establishment. While the state ensures basic food safety standards, we believe in going above and beyond. Our home is strictly a pet-free environment, and children are separated from the kitchen during production.
Every dollar you spend fuels our community's economy, while giving you absolute peace of mind that you are feeding your family the cleanest, safest, and highest-quality baked goods possible.
